YOGYAKARTA – In an effort to build harmonious relationships within the organization, Department of Education, Strategic Studies, and Religion of the Regional Organization (Orda) Kampar collaborated with the Power of Goodness (PoG) Jogja Facilitator Team. They organized the first day of the “Power of Goodness Mini Workshop” on Friday, June 5, 2026.The activity, held at the DT. Tabano Dormitory, Kampar Commissariat, Yogyakarta, carried the theme “Bringing Out the Good Within Ourselves” and was attended by 15 participants, consisting of a combination of members from the Kampar regional organization and cadres of HMI Commissariat, Faculty of Ushuluddin Islamic State University Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.
The activity was guided by the facilitator team, Altof and Ahmad, starting precisely at 1:00 PM WIB. In the Welcoming Session, participants were introduced to a brief history of the Power of Goodness approach. After that, all participants were invited to “Stopping” for silence, doing no activity and remaining speechless for 3 minutes to build focus and tranquility.
The atmosphere became closer during the “Opening” session, where the participants took turns introducing their names, University origins, and expressing the feelings they had that day. Some studied at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University, Islamic University of Indonesia (UII), and Institute of Agriculture Yogyakarta (Instiper). After the facilitator read the Agenda Poster, the session continued with reading the “Agreement to Practice”. Voluntarily, participants took turns reading the 12 agreement points on the poster. This commitment was mutually agreed upon to be applied during the activity and is expected to be implemented in their personal lives.
To break the ice so it wouldn’t feel stiff before entering the core session, the facilitator invited the participants to play the game “Big Wind Blows” (“Angin Bertiup Kencang”). Through this game, participants were invited to be honest and recognize themselves by mentioning one true and good thing that exists within each of them.
Entering the main agenda, this Power of Goodness began to dive deeply into peacebuilding methods through practice to become a “good speaker” and a “good listener”. Participants were invited to read and dissect the educational poster and discuss with each other about the importance of respecting their conversation partners. The activity continued with the “Affirmation Words” (“Kata Sifat Baik”) session, where all participants brainstormed positive words, and then each person chose one good word starting with the first letter of their name to be used during the activity.
After an ice breaking game “I Sit Here” (“Saya Duduk di Sini”), it was time for the core session, which was reading together a story titled Kunta-Hadji. This story tells about Sheikh Kunta Khadji, who taught us that the values of peace, compassion, and faith are the best way to face conflict and human suffering. Amidst the war and violence plaguing Chechnya, Kunta Hadji chose to spread the teachings of Sufism, which emphasize harmony, patience, and goodness rather than revenge and warfare. Despite experiencing oppression and imprisonment, he remained steadfast in his principles. This story teaches that evil can be defeated by love and kindness, greed with generosity, lies with honesty, and distrust with faith.
In a big circle format, the participants discussed what caught their attention from the story and their views regarding the figure of Kunta-Hadji. Then after the discussion session, participants entered the “Breakthrough” (“Jalan Keluar”) session. In this section, they were invited to learn how to solve organizational as well as personal problems by recognizing the obstacles or stiffness within themselves, while simultaneously uncovering the inner potential they possess to overcome the problems that occur.
Before the activity closed at 3:00 PM WIB, it concluded with a Reflection session using the journaling method. Here, the participants wrote down what they gained from today’s activity and what things they want to keep practicing in the future.
“Here we gather and learn new things, and we are invited to learn together that to achieve a goal, awareness is not enough. However, we also need real action,” expressed Ngabin Ngaji.
The session was closed after all participants recalled and conveyed one good word as a closing as well as a commitment to change.
