August 17, 2019, thirty-two teachers and staff of Tagbilaran City Science High School did a six-hour mini-workshop on Creating Cultures of Peace (CCP). Maurine Castano, the school principal, wanted to have a workshop that allowed her team to practice self-mastery. Since mental health concerns are growing, she wanted her team to strengthen and equip themselves with the necessary tools for resiliency. She said the major highlights of the workshop for her were: 1) making peace with myself by affirming and recognizing my own strengths and weaknesses; 2) getting to know more of my colleagues at work and the value of teamwork; and 3) learning how to take a break or de-stress.

The participants practiced stopping, good listening, excellent communication, social play, and affirmation. After the workshop, the group shared that the material was very practical and fun. They didn’t expect that the training would be so experiential and light. It also reminded them of the need for self-care and noticing the goodness and strengths of their team.
