PLA Coordinators Facilitate the First Virtual AVP Basic Workshop in Spanish

by Monica Maher, PLA Initiative Coordinator

In the face of the ongoing pandemics of Covid, hunger, State and domestic violence, the Peacebuilding en las Américas (PLA) regional team continues to exhibit resiliency and enthusiasm.

This week, the first virtual AVP Basic Workshop in Spanish will successfully come to completion. There have been 3 facilitators and 15 participants from 8 countries (Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru). Due to weak internet and work emergencies, some participants have not been able to be fully present.  Still, the response has been wonderfully affirming.

According to Silvia Solidaria of El Salvador, “Even though we are from different countries, we have lots in common…the same vision and mission.”  Ondina Optimista of Honduras describes, ”I have felt excited to know that there is a way to continue our work which really transforms lives.”   Yani Llena of Cuba asserts, “I have been positively surprised by the profund participation of all.”  Finally, Faciltitator Lorena Luciérnaga of Guatemala claims that “the experience… has been extraordinary…very enriching.”

There is much interest in replicating the workshop. In fact, a second Basic Workshop on-line has already begun with 3 facilitators and 16 participants from Guatemala, El Salvador, Peru and Brazil.
