Guatemala: Sowing Hope and Protecting Childhood in Guatemala / Sembrando esperanza y protegiendo a la niñez en Guatemala

Using the Transforming Power shields to raise our voices
The work we do in Guatemala through the Power of Goodness and the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) represents a beacon of hope for the children aged 4 to 11 we work with. Facing the painful reality of physical, emotional, and sexual violence that harms so many children, our team of facilitators takes a firm stand—we cannot and must not remain silent. Because of this, we have successfully woven together the teachings of the Power of Goodness with the methodology of the Alternatives to Violence Project.
This combination provides the youngest ones with practical tools for self-care. They learn to say “NO” when something makes them uncomfortable and they learn to tell a trusted adult about any situation or secret that disturbs their peace of mind.
The fruits of this grassroots work are deeply inspiring. The children have grasped these lessons, figuring out how to protect themselves and recognizing the great value of learning to take care of themselves from an early age. This experience confirms that these programs are not only necessary, but essential for transforming realities, which is why it is our mission to keep expanding them to more communities.
Our gratitude goes out to the Power of Goodness and the Alternatives to Violence Project for giving us the tools and methodology to reach these young lives, thereby protecting Guatemalan children in the face of adversity. Our challenge remains steadfast. Even in the midst of environments marked by violence, we will keep planting seeds of peace and resilience through teaching.

Guatemalan children making Transforming Power shields and learning to care for their bodies and say “No!”
