On July 23 and 24, 2026, we conducted a Trauma Resilience workshop with members of the Salvadoran Foundation for the Elderly (FUSATE)—a fascinating group possessing wisdom and experience, yet carrying significant emotional burdens.

Below, we share some testimonials from the participants:

I learned how to take care of my health. I appreciated the advice on self-improvement because I am open to change. I would suggest that we be more punctual and that we plan ahead and stay motivated to continue with the mutual support group. It served as a reminder to live a life of forgiveness and acceptance regarding life’s events.

I learned about communication and sharing with those I trust. I liked the practical approach and the active participation of everyone. I would change the way we start activities—instead of reading through the instructions first, I’d prefer we just dive in. I would also like the facilitator to share personal examples so we can get to know them better. I really valued the opportunity to bring out long-forgotten emotions, as well as memories and reflections on the past, present, and future.

I learned about resilience and how to move forward in life. I appreciated the chance to give a special place to the important people in my life—it was very timely. I want to thank the team sincerely for helping us overcome past issues we had been holding onto and needed to release.

As the Facilitation Team, we are deeply grateful, especially as we honor the life and work of Juan Torres—a volunteer pastor for this group for many years—who passed away on July 22, 2026. This workshop was therefore very timely, helping us begin to process the grief we all felt over this irreparable loss. Furthermore, most of us who participated in the workshop accompanied his family at the wake and funeral as a gesture of special gratitude and solidarity with our good friend and brother.

Aprendí a cuidar mi salud.
