A short video about the new maternity ward

The big dream started in 2008 when the Friends Women’s Association (FWA) purchased its second plot of land under the support of the African Great Lakes Initiative (AGLI) when David Zarembka was taking the lead. Finally the Maternity ward project started in October 2018 under the support of Vancouver Island Friends Meeting. The large donation was a Trust donated by Doctor Betty (Chrystal) Susan Kleiman (1940-2008) through Vancouver Island Friends Meeting. Then many Quakers donated to this project through the African Great Lakes Initiative (AGLI ) of the Friends Peace Teams and the Canadian Friends Service Committee (CFSC). Individuals from Canada including Madelyn Mackay, and Randy and Mary Ann Janzen have given large donations for this very important project. The FWA has also raised a significant part of funds through the Global Giving Foundation. The cost of this maternity ward is $110,260 USD.

We are very glad we finally come up to its completion. Many thanks to all of those who made it happen! The current step is medical equipment, one full time medical doctor and two nurses
