Full Job description:

The FPT Communication Specialist works independently, is proficient with relevant software, including Word, Excel, WordPress, Facebook, Flickr, Acrobat, Google Docs, Skype and email. S/he has graphic design experience, is able to work well with our Council members (most at a distance), is organized and completes work as assigned promptly.

Own equipment needed: up-to-date computer, Microsoft Office or equivalent, publishing software (e.g. InDesign, Publisher, Pages), color printer, external hard drive for backup & secure internet service. The Communication Specialist will be supported by the Communications Committee and supervised by its clerk or designee.

Compensation:  US$15.00 per hour

Time: Part time position, 15 hours per week

Specific Tasks:

Electronic News

Website: Develop, maintain and update the FPT website. Each initiative has and maintains its own website.  The FPT website should have photographs, articles and quotations from volunteers about their experiences. Maintenance includes website software as well as content. Establish and maintain appropriate links on the websites, reviewing and updating as needed.  Post content on the FPT website.
Social Media:  Update content on the, FPT Facebook pages,and AVP International website (as per our commitment to AVP).
FPT Newsletter:  Develop and maintain. Frequency to be determined.  Initiate mailings, as requested and feasible.
Publicity and Outreach

Publicity Materials: Develop, update and keep active electronic files for editing and updating, such as brochures, and possibly business cards, table displays, and thank you cards.
Support Yearly Meeting Reps:  Be available to help YM reps develop materials for appeal letters and other publicity. Design presentation packages and table displays for YM Representatives, speakers and fundraisers, as well as materials for special events as requested and send to the Office Manager for distribution. Update as needed.  Update lists with contact information and dates of affiliated YMs annually (in the fall/winter) and send the information to the office for directory and calendar.
PeaceWays:  As needed assist in editing and layout FPT PeaceWays twice a year.
Articles: Collect and edit content for articles written by Council or Working Groups and submit to Quaker publications such as Friends Journal, Western Friend, Australian Friend, etc..  Seek opportunities to publish these articles in publications from yearly meetings, local meetings, colleges, and schools and other organizations.
Advertisements: As needed, design and prepare advertisements working with a Council member(s), then submit to publications chosen.

 

Office Work

Correspondence: Answer incoming email correspondence and forward as needed.
Create an Email List: Create an email list for publicity and promotion of FPT .
Files: Maintain working files on Google Docs, and work with Office Manager to ensure that all documents are properly archived (e.g., on Dropbox or another service).
Time Sheets: Submit a timesheet monthly to the Clerk of the Communications Committee for approval and routing to the St. Louis office for payroll.
Conference Calls:  If needed, join conference calls with the Communications Committee or the Council.
Additional tasks:   As directed by the Clerk of the Communications Committee.
